I have been continuously using R since 1999. R is ideally suited for statistical consulting: an amazing number of quality tools for statistical analysis are available, and new ones can be implemented as well when needed. A statistical project, be it analysis reviewing or training, can always be "packaged" in a neat format including data, programs, documentation and reports.
R is well-suited for Reproducible Research (RR) which I consider as very important in the practice of statistics. I always write my reports, slides, ... with RR tools and encourage my clients to do so. These documents are files of code (plain text) that can be stored in Git repositories, making the complete history of changes easily available and allow the re-creation of complex reports with many graphics and tables. Although nasty addictions to bureautics proprietary software may persist, RR is now making its way to a wide application.
